Urban Policy projects:

Peer Review of the ACT Planning Strategy, DESD, ACT. 2012

Strategies for Change undertook an independent peer review of the draft ACT planning strategy while it was on public exhibition. Discussions with government agencies and stakeholders informed changes to the exhibited draft.

Future Directions Discussion Paper, Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC) 2011

Strategies for Change teamed up with Arup for this project which involved a comprehensive literature survey, a series of expert ‘think pieces’ addressing the key challenges for the region , and a stakeholder workshop. The final report set out an agenda for WSROC to advocate for future regional planning and infrastructure investments.

Member, Living Victoria Ministerial Advisory Council 2010-11

Sue was appointed by Minister Walsh to be part of a ‘First 100 days” reform agenda examining new ways to plan and distribute water throughout Melbourne. The Council, chaired by Mike Waller (former Chair Sustainability Victoria) reported in late 2010 and the government adopted the new approach in April 2011.

Submission on National Urban Policy for Council of the Capital Cities Lord Mayors (CCCLM) 2011

A position paper was prepared on behalf of the Council as a submission to the development of the National Urban Policy by the Federal government.

Planning System Reform Report, Local Government and Planning Minister’s Council 2008-9

Preparation of a report to the Ministerial council on a package of planning system reform projects to accelerate the national reform agenda for COAG.

Territory Plan Review, ACTPLA 2007

Sue was requested by the Minister for Planning in the ACT government to work with his Department (ACT Planning and Land Authority) to resolve significant objections to the consultation draft of the new Territory Planning Plan. As Independent Assessor, she worked with the key industry groups, a Reference Group of industry and community representatives and the Department to refine the plan in a way that better met the objectives of all groups.
